At the start of the breakdown journey, microorganisms and bacteria begin breaking down the materials. This initial stage, often referred to as the "biotic phase," involves the breakdown of complex polymers into simpler compounds. Microorganisms secrete enzymes, initiating the decomposition process.

Initial Decomposition
1-2 weeks
1-2 weeks
As the material progresses, fragmentation becomes prominent. The breakdown of polymers into smaller fragments occurs, facilitated by the continued activity of microorganisms. During this stage, the material begins to lose its original structure, breaking down into pieces that are more accessible to further microbial activity.

Fragmentation
2-4 weeks
In the final stage of the breakdown process, the material is fully decomposed, and any residual traces are indistinguishable. What was once a garment is now fully integrated into the natural environment, leaving no waste behind. This completed cycle showcases the regenerative nature of sustainable materials and their harmonious relationship with the earth.
